was appointed chairman of hewlett-packard. yet just 20 months later, dunn was gone from hp due to her participation in an internal investigation that involved spying on members of the board. less than a month later, dunn was charged with four felony counts for her role in that investigation. in october 2006, only hours after the criminal charges against her were announced, pattie dunn sat down with me to talk about what happened at hewlett-packard. let me ask you the obvious question that i think every lawyer who's watching this is asking himself or herself. why are you giving us an interview right after you've been indicted? it's pretty unusual. >> so my lawyer tells me. -city and one of the key members, arc-touch, and h.p., hewlett packard, we have formed a two-phase project that will address something that we have identified for many years that has hampered our police department's efficient use of time. one of the things that the street officers do on a daly basis is they have to write instant reports and get the data to do their job. most of that is done by the officers leaving the streets and returning to their stations or to the downtown office to access the ready computers that are there so they can get the data there. we don't have the mobility, if you will, to have the officers access that information while they are in their cars or on the streets. so in a two-phase process what we are doing today is announcing a partnership with h.p., who is donating some 60 of the initial first-class laptops to be used by this particular class to train them, and sf-city is donating $100,000 in that effort with the whole training program. combined they are working with arc-touch to develop application soss that once these officers -- applications so that once he t

two years. earlier this year hp said it would cut 27,000 in an effort to restructure. this week, hp filed its new plans, while also stating that costs for the company will be higher as it plans its next move. restructuring costs through 2014 will cost hp around $3.7 billion. job cuts are also ahead at eastman kodak. the bankrupt company will eliminate another 1,000 jobs by the end of the year. the ceo tells the l.a. times kodak is becoming more focused. the film maker has already axed 2700 positions. the company is currently auctioning off a large number of its patents. back in april, kodak sold its kodak gallery photo sharing website to shutterfly. ford's latest model is spurring job creation. ford will base production of its new fusion model at a plant in michigan. 1200 jobs will be added to the plant in suburban detroit. the fusion is facing high demand. it is currently one of ford's top sellers. meanwhile, over at gm, the chevy volt is a hot seller, but it could be cutting into gm's long-term profits. gm invested $1.2 billion in the volt, but has sold so few of them - fewer than
